Description

Stool 60 Kivet unites two iconic Finnish designs: Alvar Aalto’s famous 1933 “L-leg” stool and Marimekko’s Kivet (stones) pattern, created by Maija Isola for the Arkkitehti print series. The 1956 design was likely inspired by the large rough-edged stones manually cleared from the grounds of Isola’s atelier home. Marimekko’s joyful essence elevates the stool’s versatile design, adding a touch of playfulness to living spaces. The Kivet pattern is presented using marquetry on the stool’s birch veneer seat top. Contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect, as light, pattern and wood interact to bring the pattern to life.
The idea for the Lokki pattern came to Maija Isola when she was looking at a window with a curtain drawn across it. The sun was shining, and the wide folds of the curtain formed wavy shadows on the fabric. The pattern is presented using marquetry on the stool’s birch veneer seat top. The contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect, brought to life through interaction between light, pattern and wood.
Maija Isola’s Seireeni (siren) pattern, created in 1964 and inspired by the movement of water during her travels in Greece. The pattern’s name recalls the mythical sirens whose songs lured sailors at sea. Using a marquetry technique, the pattern is applied to the birch veneer seat, where contrasting wood grains create a shimmering effect. The interaction of light, pattern, and material brings the design to life. Part of the Artek + Marimekko collection, this stool is made from responsibly sourced Finnish birch at Artek’s Turku factory.

What should I expect when ordering an item with lead time?

Estimated lead times are shown under "Delivery", above. Read our shipping policy to learn more.

Lead times are estimated based on previous production times from our manufacturing partners, but lead times can change depending on availability and circumstances outside of Rarify's control.

For example: if purchasing an imported or made-to-order product, international shipping and import times depend on many factors. This includes US customs operations, global trade circumstances, and production facilities in other countries.

We will try to fulfill your order as quickly as possible. Our international freight forwarding partners help to take burden off of you during the process of importing; we appreciate your patience while your order is fulfilled.

Purchasing made-to-order is one of the most responsible ways to purchase, as it helps prevent furniture waste on our planet.

Vintage items are typically in-stock in the USA and ready to ship once purchased.

Do you deliver to NYC?

Yes, in-stock items can often be delivered to NYC quickly by our skilled couriers. Pieces are delivered by hand to your residence. This typically takes 1-2 weeks for items stocked at our warehouse in PA.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
