HIDA Sangyo is a multi-generational, Japanese fine furniture maker based in Takayama, Japan—a region known for its 1000+ year history of furniture craft. A woman-owned company, HIDA is one of the most respected furniture makers in the world, using high precision methods, solid hardwoods from Japan, and new technology for manufacturing furniture developed over the last 100+ years.
HIDA works with renowned designers such as Sori Yanagi, Kenya Hara (Art Director of MUJI), Enzo Mari, architect Kengo Kuma, Torafu Architects and many others. They are known for their sustainable manufacturing processes, holding the natural environment in the highest regard by renewing forests through their responsible sourcing of domestic Japanese woods.
HIDA is also known for their proprietary compressed Japanese cedar wood—a material that cannot be found anywhere else in the world besides HIDA.
