Description

The F42E Hanging Lounge Chair is a special request item. The price listed is standard pricing. Contact Rarify for special ordering and quote.

In 1931 Ludwig Mies van der Rohe applied for a patent for a “multifunctional lounge chair”. It was to be both ergonomic and elegant, cantilevered and suspended, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
To this day, the suspended F42E lounge chair condenses the moment of flying in a piece of furniture that looks like a flapping wing, its silhouette exuding functionality, aesthetics and restraint.

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe needs no introduction to many. He was trained formally as an architect and worked under Peter Behrens before working alongside other masters such as Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier. Mies would direct the bauhaus during the early 1930s prior to WWII and later emigrate to the United States in 1937, then acting as head of architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago. Mies is famously known for his Barcelona Pavilion, Farnsworth House, Seagram Building, among others. In the realm of furniture design, Mies and collaborator Lilly Reich created a number of pieces that are similarly famous today including the Barcelona and Brno chairs. Thanks to Florence Knoll's interest in his work, Knoll later became the licensed manufactuer of many Mies Van Der Rohe furnishings and has produced his pieces for decades.

What should I expect when ordering an item with lead time?

Estimated lead times are shown under "Delivery", above. Read our shipping policy to learn more.

Lead times are estimated based on previous production times from our manufacturing partners, but lead times can change depending on availability and circumstances outside of Rarify's control.

For example: if purchasing an imported or made-to-order product, international shipping and import times depend on many factors. This includes US customs operations, global trade circumstances, and production facilities in other countries.

We will try to fulfill your order as quickly as possible. Our international freight forwarding partners help to take burden off of you during the process of importing; we appreciate your patience while your order is fulfilled.

Purchasing made-to-order is one of the most responsible ways to purchase, as it helps prevent furniture waste on our planet.

Vintage items are typically in-stock in the USA and ready to ship once purchased.

How much does shipping cost?

Do you deliver to NYC?

Yes, in-stock items can often be delivered to NYC quickly by our skilled couriers. Pieces are delivered by hand to your residence. This typically takes 1-2 weeks for items stocked at our warehouse in PA.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.

Is everything authentic?

Rarify's entire collection is evaluated by credentialed experts for authenticity. We strive to only list an item for sale if we're certain it's authentic. Our team reviews every piece.
