Description

This is an original 1953 ESU 240-N Shelving Unit designed by Ray and Charles Eames for Herman Miller in 1949. This unit dates to 1953 and will be accompanied by its original receipt from 1953. This line was discontinued in 1955, and was re-released in 1998 after a 43 year break. The frame is composed of perforated steel extrusions with diagonal bracing that were coated in zinc, and the panels are fiber board with white, black, and grey colors. The plywood sliding doors are made of birch plywood with a maple face veneer, and were molded with circular indentations which increased their durability and their resistance to warping. The top had a couple of light marks, which we lightly sanded and blended with finish. Otherwise, the cabinet appears to be completely original.
The shelving unit measures 16.75 inches deep, 47 inches wide, and 32.5 inches high. The legs show some scratches and there is some wear to the veneer on one door. Overall, this unit is in very good condition. Please see photos.

You can see estimated lead times under "Delivery", above.

Newly made items ship from a warehouse or are made-to-order. There may be a lead time depending on the piece. We'll keep you updated if there is.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
