Biagio is one of our all-time favorite pieces at Rarify. The lamp was designed in 1968 by Tobia Scarpa—the son of legendary Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa—and has been in production since.
The Biagio table lamp is carved out of a single piece of fine white Italian Carrara marble and hand-polished, a process we consider to be impressive and extremely refined. Soft light shines through the translucent marble, highlighting the lamp's super-premium material.
The subtractive nature of the lamp's manufacturing process is also reflected in the design, which is based on a series of three-dimensional formal subtractions. The careful calibration of the lamp's wall thickness to the translucent properties of Carrara marble make it a highly specific and materially-focused design. We have no doubt that collectors and lovers of materiality will enjoy owning and passing down this impressive piece to future generations.
The Biagio lamp uses a 72W frosted incandescent bulb that emits soft direct light.
