Description

This is an original ‘Tea Trolley 900’ Modern Cart, designed in 1937 by Aino and Alvar Aalto for the World Exhibition in Paris. The Aalto’s use of Finnish birch and rattan could be considered an early form of “organic modernism”; it was their take on the ‘International Style’, which celebrated wood in its natural state. The trolley features a white ceramic-tiled top, and has an attached rattan basket which makes it perfect for serving. The piece’s frame is made from birch which has been bent, and the top and bottom trays are of form-pressed birch plywood. The wheels are lined with rubber to give it a smooth ride.

This cart measures 26 inches long, 35.5 inches wide, and is 23.5 inches tall. The rattan basket has some damage to the reeds. We have not attempted to remedy the basket nor refinish the wood. There are nicks and scuffs to the wood. Overall, this true collector’s item is in original condition with age apparent. Please see photos.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.
