Description

This is a Model 3238 Spanish Dining Chair. It features a brawny quarter-sawn solid oak frame, with a thick slung saddle-leather seat and backrest. It was designed by the great Danish designer Børge Mogensen in 1958 and manufactured by CI designs. CI Designs was a licensed manufacturer of Mogensen designs, as well as a number of other prominent designers of the time.

The condition of the wood is very good to excellent with beautiful patina formed on the oak frame. The leather is very worn and the more fragile and thinner straps underneath show further wear (it appears that the straps had broken in a couple of areas, but have been inelegantly mended). To note, we also have one more identical chair from the same estate, which has even more worn leather. Should you be interested in the pair, feel free to inquire. Both chairs were acquired from an estate in Boston with numerous other notable CI Designs furniture pieces.

This listing is for one chair. The chair measures 19 inches in depth, 25.5 inches in width and 33.25 inches tall. The seat height is 18 inches.

Mogensen's ideal was to create furniture with a restrained aesthetic, designing for function more than sculptural effect. He believed that furniture should create a sense of tranquility and have a modest appearance that encourages people to live their lives unpretentiously.

When do orders ship?

You can see estimated lead times under "Delivery", above.

Newly made items ship from a warehouse or are made-to-order. There may be a lead time depending on the piece. We'll keep you updated if there is.

Vintage items are all in-stock and ready to ship.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
