Description

This is a large Split Reception Desk, initially designed by Davis Allen for General Fireproofing Reception circa 1974. This custom-designed piece truly exemplifies the cutting edge of office design at the time. It has a steel plinth base around its entire perimeter, and has coordinating steel trim. Tomato Red enameled-steel panels cover the outer façade, and both pieces have white laminate tops. Davis Allen was a prolific furniture designer, who spent most of his career working within the offices of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) Architects. He worked closely with Gordon Bunshaft for years and became the most trusted accomplice for bringing to life extraordinary projects that considered architecture as part of a "total design" philosophy, meaning that SOM in many cases designed all furniture, lighting, and even trash cans.

The desk measures 32 inches deep, 60 inches long, and 29.25 inches high. The second piece measures 19.5 inches deep and 81.75 inches wide. This set remains in its original condition, and there are scuffs and scratches throughout. The enamel on some of the panels has worn away at the corners, and there is tape residue on the sides of the piece. The steel plinth would benefit from cleaning/sanding. Overall, this desk is in solid condition with wear and patina from use. Please see photos.

You can see estimated lead times under "Delivery", above.

Newly made items ship from a warehouse or are made-to-order. There may be a lead time depending on the piece. We'll keep you updated if there is.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.
