Description
This is a set of four Plaano armchairs, designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro for Avarte in the 1970s. The listed price includes the set of four. Their design incorporates a tubular chromed-steel frame with a bent birch back and arms, and these have an upholstered seat and back done in a peacock blue hopsack wool. They were manufactured by the Finnish furniture company Avarte, formerly known as Haimi. To say that these are scarce is an understatement.
Each armchair measures 22 inches deep, 22 inches wide, and 35.5 inches high. They have a seat height of 17 inches. There are some small blemishes on the birch backs, with a few small chips to the edge of veneer. The steel has a light patina, though is still shiny and not cloudy or pitted. The cushions are soft and pliant, providing an ergonomic and comfortable seat. Overall, these chairs are in very good condition with light wear. Please see photos.
