This lamp is one of Gae Aulenti's most sought-after works. Aulenti was an Italian architect and designer, one of two women in her graduating class in architecture school. Her work has become highly collectible and renowned for her experimental forms, colors and material processes originating in the mid-20th century.
Meaning "bat" in Italian, Pipistrello is a relfection of Aulenti's obession with creating expressive curvature in architecture and objects. The telescoping base of the lamp is novel and functional, allowing for height adjustment. The lamp's molded resin diffuser is icnoic, eyecatching and complements a variety of other pieces well.
Pipistrello is available in three sizes, all usable as table lamps. The largest size is particularly well suited to use as a floor lamp, as well.
Pipistrello provides direct downward light for a tabletop surface (or interior space, if used as a floor lamp). The translucent shade also provides a diffuse upward glow.
