Parallel Bar Three Seat Sofa, Model 57 (1958)
Made by Knoll
This is an extremely early Florence Knoll ‘Parallel Bar’ Sofa, Model 57, designed by Florence Knoll in 1958. It is a rare example of Florence Knoll's work in its completely original form. It features green fabric upholstery and has steel legs.
This sofa has a rather unique history. The piece was obtained from the now razed Industrial Mutual Association Auditorium in Flint, Michigan. The building was originally constructed in 1929, and a modernist addition was added in 1958. This sofa was custom designed for this particular project as part of the interiors.
The sofa measures 90.5 inches long by 31.25 inches tall and 30 inches deep. This piece retains its original upholstery. With the exception of a small burn (about half an inch in diameter), the sofa is in very good vintage condition. Please see photos.
