Description

The KK47000 Safari Chair is a refinement of the chairs brought on an African safari by an American cinematographer and his wife. The designer noticed them in the couple’s photos. They were most likely based on Indian Roorkhee Chairs used by the British military – possibly the first examples of self-assembled furniture. The original featured glueless joints, tool-free assembly, and an intelligent construction that caused the joints to tighten when the chair was occupied, enhancing strength and stability. For the KK47000 Safari Chair, the designer focused on simplifying, clarifying and refining the lounge chair’s composition, exhibiting the final Safari Chair design in 1933 at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition. While inspired by its British predecessor, the sophisticated, lightweight chair is defined by his signature systematic approach, fine craftsmanship, well-conceived proportions, and remarkable material effects.
The Safari Chair matches with KK97170 footstool.
Leather group B (Thor) is available only in: Thor 301, Thor 307, Thor 325 and Thor 332.

The Safari Chair was designed by renowned furniture designer, educator, and visionary, Kaare Klint. Today, he is recognized as the father of modern Danish design. Klint designed icons like the 1914 Faaborg Chair and the 1933 Safari Chair, as well as the design for the reception room of the Danish Pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. Klint insisted on clear, logical design, clean lines, the best materials, and superb craftsmanship. His influence on future generations of designers and architects is still evident to this day.

What should I expect when ordering an item with lead time?

Estimated lead times are shown under "Delivery", above. Read our shipping policy to learn more.

Lead times are estimated based on previous production times from our manufacturing partners, but lead times can change depending on availability and circumstances outside of Rarify's control.

For example: if purchasing an imported or made-to-order product, international shipping and import times depend on many factors. This includes US customs operations, global trade circumstances, and production facilities in other countries.

We will try to fulfill your order as quickly as possible. Our international freight forwarding partners help to take burden off of you during the process of importing; we appreciate your patience while your order is fulfilled.

Purchasing made-to-order is one of the most responsible ways to purchase, as it helps prevent furniture waste on our planet.

Vintage items are typically in-stock in the USA and ready to ship once purchased.

Do you deliver to NYC?

Yes, in-stock items can often be delivered to NYC quickly by our skilled couriers. Pieces are delivered by hand to your residence. This typically takes 1-2 weeks for items stocked at our warehouse in PA.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
