Harper Rocking Chair
By Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance for Bernhardt Design
Description
Designed to commemorate 125 years of Bernhardt Design, Harper is the classic Windsor rocking chair reimagined, celebrating the company’s heritage, imagination, and craftsmanship. The goal was to create harmony between its various elements to form an unbroken line. This atypical arrangement of parts generates something more contemporary while remaining true to its historical reference.
The chair frame, coated with a natural clear finish, is made from solid cherry and features maple tapered spindles. The contrast between two woods enables one to follow the form of the chair and easily see the suspended interior. The leather seat has flange stitch details that bring tailoring and quality to the chair while maintaining an important sense of familiarity.
Harper was designed by the multidisciplinary French designer, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, known internationally for his sensitive attention to materials and details, as well as for the refinement of his organic forms. From his initial training as a sculptor, he has kept this innate aptitude for dialogue between space and object. Bernhardt Design’s ongoing partnership with Noé spans over a decade and has resulted in many of our most well-known pieces.
