Four Seasons Bar Stool, Model 257C

Description
This is an original Four Seasons Bar Stool, designed by Mies Van Der Rohe and Phillip Johnson in 1958 for the Four Seasons Restaurant in the Seagram Building in New York. The design is believed to be a collaboration between van der Rohe, who designed the building, and Johnson, who designed the restaurant. It features a chromed-steel cantilever base, and has a black leather seat. From the underside, it appears that the seat was originally brown. This stool was not formally put into production by Knoll until 2006, so it is presumably from the Four Seasons restaurant itself. It coordinates beautifully with van der Rohe’s Brno chair, which flanked the dining tables at the restaurant.
This stool measures 17.5 inches deep, 17.25 inches wide, and is 30 inches high. We have intentionally left this piece in its original condition, as it is an important example that is rarely seen in the marketplace. The base shows patina and spots, and the seat shows wear. Overall, this important stool is in good condition. Please see photos.

What should I expect when ordering an item with lead time?
Estimated lead times are shown under "Delivery", above. Read our shipping policy to learn more.
Lead times are estimated based on previous production times from our manufacturing partners, but lead times can change depending on availability and circumstances outside of Rarify's control.
For example: if purchasing an imported or made-to-order product, international shipping and import times depend on many factors. This includes US customs operations, global trade circumstances, and production facilities in other countries.
We will try to fulfill your order as quickly as possible. Our international freight forwarding partners help to take burden off of you during the process of importing; we appreciate your patience while your order is fulfilled.
Purchasing made-to-order is one of the most responsible ways to purchase, as it helps prevent furniture waste on our planet.
Vintage items are typically in-stock in the USA and ready to ship once purchased.
How much does shipping cost?
To see shipping costs, add an item to your cart and proceed to checkout. You'll be able to see costs there.
- Small items like lamps typically cost under $99 to ship.
- Larger items including furniture often ship on a truck via Freight. Our furniture shippers professionally arrange and manage all Freight shipments.
- Freight costs often range between $100 and $999 for furniture.
- Very large and fragile items can cost more, depending on the ship-to-address.
- Freight costs may include insurance.
Do you deliver to NYC?
Yes, in-stock items can often be delivered to NYC quickly by our skilled couriers. Pieces are delivered by hand to your residence. This typically takes 1-2 weeks for items stocked at our warehouse in PA.
What is Freight shipping?
Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.
Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.
Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
Is everything authentic?
Rarify's entire collection is evaluated by credentialed experts for authenticity. We strive to only list an item for sale if we're certain it's authentic. Our team reviews every piece.
