Description

This is a Rolling Swivel Desk Chair, initially designed by Clifford Pascoe for Modernmasters Inc. in 1951. This particular example was produced by The Lewis Street Metal Company sometime in the 1950s. The design originally made its debut at the 1952 Museum of Modern Art “Good Design” show. The silhouette is modernist in form, having a black enameled iron frame and a curved walnut plywood backrest. The chair retains its original black vinyl upholstery, and also has its original brass casters. The design is often mistaken for a similar design by Paul McCobb from the same time period. An important difference between the designs is found in the way that the backrests meet the frame; the Pascoe chair employs visible bolts connected through the backrest to attach it to the iron frame, and the McCobb backrest is connected invisibly.

This chair measures 18 inches deep, 18 inches wide, and 31 inches high. It has a seat height of approximately 18 inches. The seat is fairly hard, and it doesn't appear to have any padding. There is ample patina on the base and on the casters, and there is some wear apparent on the wood. Overall, this chair is in good condition. Please see photos.

What should I expect when ordering an item with lead time?

Estimated lead times are shown under "Delivery", above. Read our shipping policy to learn more.

Lead times are estimated based on previous production times from our manufacturing partners, but lead times can change depending on availability and circumstances outside of Rarify's control.

For example: if purchasing an imported or made-to-order product, international shipping and import times depend on many factors. This includes US customs operations, global trade circumstances, and production facilities in other countries.

We will try to fulfill your order as quickly as possible. Our international freight forwarding partners help to take burden off of you during the process of importing; we appreciate your patience while your order is fulfilled.

Purchasing made-to-order is one of the most responsible ways to purchase, as it helps prevent furniture waste on our planet.

Vintage items are typically in-stock in the USA and ready to ship once purchased.

How much does shipping cost?

Do you deliver to NYC?

Yes, in-stock items can often be delivered to NYC quickly by our skilled couriers. Pieces are delivered by hand to your residence. This typically takes 1-2 weeks for items stocked at our warehouse in PA.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
