By Karl-Friedrich Schinkel for Tecta
D60-2 Garden Bench
The black lacquered D60 Garden Bench and Chair, originally made in the state-owned Royal Iron Foundry in Berlin, is an early series product made up of a few parts with no limit on the number of pieces. It is an approved cast of the original chair from the Munich City Museum. The two side parts and the backrest are each cast in one piece using cast iron. The backrest is decorated with a lyre, a Medusa head with two wide wings and acanthus tendrils. The curved, cross-shaped legs of the D60 are particularly eye-catching. The optional Bauhaus seat cushion humorously connects two very different eras and refers to the early series production of this classic.
D60 was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. He was a Prussian architect, city planner and painter who also designed furniture and stage sets. Schinkel was one of the most prominent architects of Germany. His most famous buildings are found in and around Berlin.
