Description

D51-2 is a 2 or 3-seater solid ash bench upholstered in fabric or leather. The D51 Series was designed for the Vestibühl of the Fagus Works, Alfeld.

The D51 Series was designed by Walter Gropius. Gropius set up his own business as an industrial designer and architect in 1910. As a designer, he designed interior furnishings, wallpaper, series furniture, car bodies and a diesel locomotive. His first significant architectural work was the Fagus factory in Alfeld an der Leine, which he built together with Adolf Meyer. With its steel and glass architecture, this factory building is considered a pioneering work of what later became known as “modern architecture,” which became a general term in the 1920s under the name “new building” or “new objectivity.” After the First World War, Gropius became the founder of the Bauhaus. In 1934, after attacks by the National Socialists on the Bauhaus as the "Church of Marxism", Gropius emigrated to England and in 1937 to the USA to Cambridge, where he became a professor of architecture at the " Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.

You can see estimated lead times under "Delivery", above.

Newly made items ship from a warehouse or are made-to-order. There may be a lead time depending on the piece. We'll keep you updated if there is.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
