Description

This is an exceptionally rare set of eight original Eames Pivoting Arm Chairs with Casters (PACC) designed by Charles and Ray Eames, produced by Herman Miller. The chairs are unique for two main reasons. The first is that they retain original Alexander Girard-designed Mexicotton Stripe fabric. Girard was the legendary textile designer, who worked closely with Herman Miller and the Eames.' The second notable part is that this is an original and intact set of eight with tags to trace their provenance to the Pilot Life Insurance Company in Sedgefield, North Carolina, where these came from. Pilot did notable building projects on their campus in 1965, concluding in 1967 and these were presumably part of their furnishings acquired circa 1967. As far as future use, these PACC chairs can be used either with rolling bases or with interchangeable glides, so they would functional nicely as dining chairs also. We can source original glides if desired.

The chairs came directly from the home of an elderly woman, who acquired these directly from Pilot Life Insurance. The chairs are remarkably intact, though certainly show use and wear. There is some staining and discoloration to some of the fabric. A couple also have the edge banding separating slightly, though we should be able to address that and get it back in place prior to shipping. The aluminum bases are in very nice shape and black fiberglass looks terrific also.

The chairs measure 32.25 inches tall by 23.875 inches wide and 24 inches deep. The seat height is 18.5 inches.

What should I expect when ordering an item with lead time?

Estimated lead times are shown under "Delivery", above. Read our shipping policy to learn more.

Lead times are estimated based on previous production times from our manufacturing partners, but lead times can change depending on availability and circumstances outside of Rarify's control.

For example: if purchasing an imported or made-to-order product, international shipping and import times depend on many factors. This includes US customs operations, global trade circumstances, and production facilities in other countries.

We will try to fulfill your order as quickly as possible. Our international freight forwarding partners help to take burden off of you during the process of importing; we appreciate your patience while your order is fulfilled.

Purchasing made-to-order is one of the most responsible ways to purchase, as it helps prevent furniture waste on our planet.

Vintage items are typically in-stock in the USA and ready to ship once purchased.

Do you deliver to NYC?

Yes, in-stock items can often be delivered to NYC quickly by our skilled couriers. Pieces are delivered by hand to your residence. This typically takes 1-2 weeks for items stocked at our warehouse in PA.

What is Freight shipping?

Freight shipping is how most furniture is shipped: secured by hand on a pallet and transported on a truck.

Furniture arrives curbside, often on the shipping pallet for protection.

Freight shipments can take longer and are more costly than regular mail, but help to prevent damage to furniture during delivery.
