The iconic Butterfly Stool is a classic piece of furniture that uniquely combines Eastern forms with the plywood molding technique developed by Charles and Ray Eames. The gently curving silhouette of the twin seat shells is reminiscent of a butterfly's wings – eternally poised for flight. The stool is made of maple or palisander wood.
The Butterfly Stool was designed by Japanese designer Sori Yanagi. he founded the Yanagi Industrial Design Institute in 1952. Sori Yanagi’s organic forms combine western industrial designs with Japan’s native artisanal traditions. This successful synthesis made Sori Yanagi one of the most significant Japanese designers of the post-war era.
