The Tatamiza legless floor chair is made of bent white oak with a polyurethane finish.
Tatamiza was designed by Kenya Hara. With the theme, “Personal furniture for oneself by Six Designers”, Kenya created a legless floor chair using the bent wood technique. In a tatami-matted study in his house, below the desk there’s a sunken area like horigotatsu (a sunken space built into the floor with a heat source underneath and a hanging quilt to retain warmth). He would sit flat on the floor with his feet in this sunken area. When he sat there working for long hours, a back support became crucial. He produced an exoskeleton-like chair characterized by its body-fitting seating surface and sinuous curvature.
