The PH 80 Floor Lamp emits a diffused, reflected, symmetrical light. The majority of the light is directed downward. The opal acrylic shades provide comfortable room lighting. On the original fixture, the red hue of the top reflector adds an intense, warm glow to the light. The black and white fixtures have a white top reflector that reflects the light for a clean, elegant look. The choice of light source will determine the color of the illumination.
The PH Collection was designed by Danish designer, architect, writer, and cultural critic, Poul Henningsen. His lifelong collaboration with Louis Poulsen began in 1924 and lasted until his passing in 1967. To this day, Louis Poulsen still benefits from his genius legacy and continues his heritage working to provide exceptional, glare-free light. In fact, his pioneering work concerning the relationship between light, shadows, glare, and color reproduction - compared to man’s need for light laid the foundation of the lighting philosophy still practiced by Louis Poulsen.
PH80, the lamp's model number, does not refer to the top shade's diameter, which is the system that usually applies to the three-shade models. The light was created in 1974 after Henningsen’s death to mark the 80th anniversary of his birth—hence the name PH 80.
