Chippendale Chair (1984)

Listed for sale is an exceptionally rare Chippendale chair, designed by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. The chair was produced by Knoll and its design played a role in introducing Knoll's clientele to postmodern furniture works. Venturi and Scott Brown were two of most prolific designers and architects of the postmodern movement, having published seminal writings such as Learning From Las Vegas in 1972, among others. The couple is also known for buildings like the Vanna Venturi House and furnishings including this line for Knoll. The Knoll series was introduced in 1984. This particular example has the natural finish over birch plywood. The cushion has a neutral dark fabric. Condition overall is very good to excellent showing only light wear from use. It retains its original Knoll International label with 655 Madison Avenue address noted.
