1930 Spec Barcelona Lounge Chair (2009)
Made by Gratz Industries
This is an exceptionally rare and unusual Barcelona chair, produced by Gratz Industries, one of the original metal fabricators that produced the Barcelona chair for Knoll.
We were told by the owner of Gratz that: "When we produced the series of 'original 1930 spec' Barcelona and Tugendhat frames for the restoration of the Tugendhat Villa in Czech Republic we were asked by A.M.O.S. Design in Prague (2009) to use their Mies archival drawings which included the half lap joint in lieu of the eventually accepted welded frames. The piece was part of a Designer Show house display in NYC in 2012 and was captioned "Golden Barcelona—so wrong, it's right".
The leather is a special Italian Gold Leaf leather. The chair overall shows some light wear, more notably to the frame. See photos.
If interested in a pair, we do have one additional frame made to this spec, however, we would need to make the straps and cushions to order and may not be able to find the exact Gold Leaf leather. Feel free to inquire if interested.
The chair measures 29.5 inches wide by 30 inches deep and 30.25 inches tall. The seat height is 17 inches.
