Egg Chair and Ottoman (1959)
Made by Fritz Hansen
Listed for sale is an exceptionally rare and original Egg Chair and Ottoman, designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen in 1959. This set came from a period-correct home and estate in New Jersey full of original George Nakashima furniture, which was all dated 1959 on the order cards. Given that the furniture was all ordered at the same time, it is presumed that this set also dates to 1959. Like many others, the foam had not held up well over the years and thus the set was just freshly reupholstered by a renowned upholstery shop in Chicago, which specializes in complex forms such as these egg chairs. They are one of the only shops in the country capable of factory-spec work. The set was re-done in full grain Italian cognac leather, which was hand stitched using the same process as was originally used. This is guaranteed as an authentic set.
The chair measures 42.5 inches tall by 34 inches wide and 31.5 inches deep. The ottoman measures 14.5 inches tall by 22 inches wide and 16 inches deep.
